Become a PastPort Historian

We put words in the mouths of historical figures. We need historians to verify the underlying facts.

PastPort is an augmented-reality app that brings historical figures to life on the streets of Boston (and soon, other cities). A visitor points a phone at the ground, and a historical figure appears and speaks for one to four minutes. That speech must be grounded in facts.

What You'll Do

   Outline the Content

   Before anything is drafted, you propose what a script must cover to represent the figure fairly and fully, given the time constraints. We work with you to refine that plan to best fit our medium.

2. 2

   Review and Edit the Speech

   Working with our AI tools, you generate, review, and edit drafts. You check every claim, and craft the speech to make it hold a visitor's attention for one to four minutes. We then work with you to finalize the historical figure's presentation.

Scripts run 250–450 words. Sixty-nine figures are built today; 30 have been reviewed by a historian. We plan to add 250 more over the coming year.

What We Pay

$130 for a standard, well documented figure

Roughly $85/hour. Remote, contract, no minimum commitment. Invoices paid within 14 days.

Who Can Join

• Graduate training in history, or equivalent professional experience — museum, archive, historic site, documentary, authorship.
• Able to write for a general audience (this is what we look for in a writing sample).

No AR, tech, or startup experience needed. The work is remote — you do not need to be in Boston.

Credit

Historians are credited by name on our website. Working uncredited is also available, at the same rate.

Where It Can Go

Most people will stay contractors, and that is a fine outcome.
